A disaster assistance team from Southwest Florida was in Tennessee Tuesday hoping to help families get back on their feet after a devastating flood.

The Marco Patriots brought generators, linens and their mobile feeding station to Waverly, Tennessee, where the community was hit hard by floods.

“It’s humbling for me when I enter disaster area, to know the reality,” said Matthew Melican with Marco Patriots. “Things we don’t least expect in life can happen at any time, any place. It’s about the people you can count on when the situation calls for it.”

“It’s awesome,” said Jeremy McCord, who lives in a town nearby Waverly. “We got a lot of help from all over coming in its great … They need help really bad.”

The severe weather that caused flooding has claimed the lives of 18 people, including 7-month-old twins.

The Marco Patriots say they will be in Tennessee likely for the rest of the week or until they aren’t needed anymore.
