A semitruck with a trailer, driven by a 20-year-old Wauchula man, was traveling also traveling south on SR-31, behind the car at a distance. The car was redirected into the center of the travel lanes, where it stopped until the left front of the semitruck then collided with it. The driver from Orlando was pronounced dead at the scene and his passenger was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
