There’s been progress made at Centennial Park. These upgrades are part of a larger effort to revitalize the River District.

The drainage is finished, and soon a large amphitheater is going in downtown Fort Myers. People here say they’re excited about the changes.

This group of friends wants you to know that they love to have a good time. Marie Jones is visiting from Pennsylvania. “We are never bored!” Jones said.

This year for their annual reunion, they chose to bring the party to downtown Fort Myers. Carol Huey says they’ll be back. “I have a feeling we’re gonna be back here next year! Will you be on the corner?” said Huey.

Next year, the chance of downtown’s main attraction being done is high. In a release, the company in charge of the renovations at Centennial Park said that the work is right on schedule. This means everything should be completed by the spring of 2023.

Terrific, wonderful, beautiful,” the group said.

Wright Construction Group said underground drainage and water services are good to go. Now, the lighting, irrigation and amphitheater construction are underway. And, in just a few weeks, landscaping will begin.

Joyce Wiser lives in Port Charlotte. “Anything on the river has got to draw a lot of people, and the more family-friendly things you can have on the river, it just showcases how beautiful this area really is,” said Wiser.

Renovations to the pavilion and the bathrooms on the park’s west side have been completed. Next is the new 11,000-square-foot playground.

While these ladies don’t plan to go down the slide, they do plan to return and make good memories.

When finished, the price tag of the new Centennial Park will reach $3 million.
