People are furious after their neighborhood is covered with hate messages. The antisemitic flyers were found at multiple homes along McGregor Blvd.

While there may be a cartoon on the flyers, neighbors were distraught.

You don’t have to be Jewish to take offense to what someone drew and threw at properties along McGregor Blvd. But, one Rabbi wants to offer prayers and love to the person responsible for this.

Someone took the time to write those words and draw the picture on these pieces of paper, knowing it would cause deep pain to those on the receiving end.

Carolyn Gora is a Jewish community member and lives on McGregor Blvd. “It’s just what it says, it’s just awful, and to me, it reminds me of what happened in Nazi Germany,” said Gora.

For Gora, being Jewish has conditioned her to face hate. She found the flyer in her driveway on Thursday night when she took her dog for a walk. “I thought it was just another flyer to have somebody, you know, pressure clean my house. But when I opened it up, I could not believe it,” said Gora.

Fort Myers is not only Gora’s home, but it’s her safe place.

“To say something like antisemitism is a human right? That’s disgusting,” Gora said.

But, what many people believe is a human right is education. And Rabbi Nicole Luna of Temple Beth El says the person who took the time to write these words and draw this picture needs some of that education.

“I would hope they would be open to education, and most of all, that love is always going to be stronger than hate,” said Rabbi Luna.

Love can come through prayer. “The prayer that comes to mind is our prayer Sim Shalom which is asking God to grant peace,” Rabbi Luna said.

In the 77 years after the fall of Nazi Germany, antisemitism is on the rise in America.

“It could be the beginning of something that I don’t want to see,” said Gora.

For now, Fort Myers police say there is no evidence of a crime, except for littering.

Some may be wondering why there’s a Whoopi Goldberg face? The celebrity recently said the Holocaust was not motivated by race. That is not the case.
