People living on their boats at the Laishley Marina in Punta Gorda have six months to find a new place to live.

This was unearthed when the city had to renew the submerged land lease from the state.

That’s when the state realized the city was violating the 6-month rule and told them they had to fix it.

But for those liveaboards, it’s hard to find another local marina.

Some marinas have a waitlist for as long as three years.

Originally, people who had already stayed past their six months had about 60 days to leave, but the council made the decision to offer more of a grace period.

It’s good news for people like Jeff Pitt who are having a hard time finding where to go.

“Well, I ain’t slept in two, two and a half weeks,” Pitt said. “I think I’ll finally be able to go to sleep tonight. So a little relieved but it buys us time so we can get through it and maybe find somewhere to go.”
