A kayaking incident on the Caloosahatchee River in Fort Myers left one person dead Sunday afternoon, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

FWC responded to a report that around 5:30 p.m., a 24-year-old man from Indiana was kayaking before he fell in the water.

After first responders arrived, they pulled the man from the water and found him already dead, according to FWC. He was not wearing a personal floatation device at the time of the incident. FWC, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and Iona McGregor Fire Department all responded to the scene.

This is an active investigation and we will provide more information when available.
