It is back to work on a project that is expected to bring hundreds of new jobs to Southwest Florida.

Construction has started again on the Sunseeker Resort along US-41 on Charlotte Harbor.

Hurricane Ian destroyed all five cranes on the site, which was also battered by the wind and rain.

WINK News found a Securities and Exchange Commission filing from Allegiant Travel Company on October 7. The resort was originally hoping to start selling rooms as early as May 2023. That date is now expected to be in September 2023.

That opening date depends on other factors and could move that date further or closer to now.

One of the things Sunseeker is working on is replacing the five cranes that towered over the site before Hurricane Ian.

Sunseeker officials say they are replacing them with mobile cranes for the remainder of that construction.

WINK News has also learned that work is currently being done on the pool. Just last week, workers poured more than 700 yards of concrete on the base.

The resort’s recovery process is well underway. This resort alone is looking to bring about 1,200 jobs to Southwest Florida.
