Man accused of aiming laser pointer at LCSO helicopter in flight

Targeting a Lee County Sheriff’s Office helicopter with a laser pointer led to a Fort Myers man getting arrested.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, John Beck admitted to recently buying the laser and wanting to point it at the helicopter while in the air.

“He’s standing at the front door with the laser; it looks like a male subject,” the helicopter pilot said.

Beck’s wife handed over the laser to LCSO.

“Be advised, he hit us approximately two or three times,” the helicopter pilot said.

Beck was then arrested and has since bonded out of jail.
