Credit: WINK The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that involved a man from Port Charlotte on Sunday. According to deputies, Octavius Cornelius Lee Cummings Jr., 25, was found dead after a shooting was reported at the North Jetty Park at 100 Casey Key Road in Nokomis at around 7:16 p.m. Deputies believe that the altercation stemmed from an argument inside the park. The park was closed on Sunday and Monday while investigators worked the scene; it has since reopened. SCSO believes that the shooting was an isolated incident and that there are no known concerns to the public. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Sarasota Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section at 941-861-4900 or Sarasota Crime Stoppers at 941-366-8477.
