As the heat continues to arrive one afternoon after another in Southwest Florida, at least one city in Charlotte County broke a new record.

According to the Weather Authority, Punta Gorda hit 101 degrees Fahrenheit Thursday afternoon, the hottest ever it’s been in May in that city.

The temperature also ties the record high of all time for Puna Gorda, according to WINK’s Chief Meteorologist Matt Devitt.

Fort Myers also tied a high heat record for the day at 97 degrees.

On top of this news, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Charlotte County is experiencing severe drought conditions.

A burn ban is also in place, which was announced on Charlotte County Emergency Management’s Facebook page on Thursday.
