Habitual offender faces 2 vehicular homicide charges in SR-82 crash

Authorities are charging the driver involved in a deadly crash on State Road 82 off Sunshine Boulevard with vehicular homicide following an extensive investigation that still continues.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 34-year-old Jimmy Randall Roberts Jr. faces two counts of vehicular homicide, three counts of reckless driving with serious injuries, driving with a suspended license, habitual traffic offender and convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Roberts was booked into the Lee County Jail on Friday after he was released from Gulf Coast Medical Center.

Two women were killed in the crash, a 35-year-old and an 18-year-old.

One woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Another was pronounced dead at the hospital after being transported with critical injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing.
