Sales tax-free shopping begins; save money and prepare for Hurricane Season

June 1st marks the beginning of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. It also means you can keep a little cash in your wallet.

The 2024 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday starts today and runs through Friday, June 14, 2024. Sales tax is waived on all eligible items related to disaster preparedness.

What’s Covered

$20 or less:

  • Reusable ice packs

$40 or less:

  • Portable light sources such as candles, flashlights, and lanterns

$50 or less:

  • Gas or diesel fuel containers
  • Batteries, excluding automobile and boat batteries
  • Portable radios (two-way and weather band)

$60 or less:

  • Coolers and ice chests
  • Portable power banks

$70 or less:

  • Carbon monoxide detectors
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Smoke detectors or smoke alarms

$3,000 or less:

  • Portable generators

Pet Evacuation Supplies

$10 or less:

  • Wet cat or dog food (per can or pouch or the equivalent if sold in a box or case)

$15 or less:

  • Cat litter pans
  • Collapsible or travel-size food or water bowls
  • Hamster or rabbit substrate
  • Manual can openers
  • Pet waste disposal bags
