On day three of the Caloosahatchee Bridge closing, motorist fatigue had already set in. Many drivers had taken shortcuts through parking lots to avoid some traffic.

Lee County Deputies monitored the Big Lots parking lot at Pondella Road and U.S. 41 as drivers diverted through the lot, which is illegal. The cut-thru had previously created a ripple effect in the morning rush.

While the Florida Department of Transportation crews work to create a pedestrian walkway on the Caloosahatchee Bridge, motorists who rely on the bridge for their commutes had to adjust their departure time to accommodate for the increased traffic.

To help alleviate the migraine produced by the bridge closure, the traffic lights at the US-41 and Pondella Road intersection have been adjusted.
