A Lee County teen is heading back to Washington, D.C. for the National History Day Contest.

Elsee Cribbs will stage a one-woman, nine-minute show where she will play actress Hedy Lamarr.

Lamarr is also credited as the inventor of the torpedo and the beginnings of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.

This will be the ninth grader’s second trip to D.C. after her previous attempt made it past the regionals.

WINK News spoke with Cribbs about any alterations she may have made to increase her odds of winning the contest.

“Last year, my project was a 10-minute monologue, just me standing there, so I decided to make it more interesting visually because, especially when I went in run-offs last year, the judges were kind of tired, and my performance was the last one of the evening,” said Cribbs.

Cribbs is set to compete on Tuesday.
