Published: Updated:

Law enforcement, fire rescue, and school officials from Charlotte County are uniting forces in a drill to practice cross-agency skills when an emergency separates children from their families.

On Wednesday, the following Charlotte County agencies will be participating in a training exercise at the Harold Avenue Recreation Center, at 23400 Harold Ave. in Port Charlotte, focused on emergency student reunification procedures:

  • Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office
  • Charlotte County Public Schools
  • Punta Gorda Police
  • Fire & EMS
  • Emergency Management

The procedures they plan to practice aim to keep children safe and to reunite them with their families in the event of an emergency.

Charlotte County Public Schools put out a news release asking the public not to be alarmed should they say the convergence of these emergency responders.

“Please do not be concerned if you see or receive tips regarding emergency personnel at the Harold Avenue Recreation Center; this is a planned exercise.”
