A Fort Myers woman is facing charges after authorities say she stole an Ambitrans ambulance from Golisano Children’s Hospital.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, 30-year-old Ariel Marchan-Le Quire was arrested Thursday morning and faces several charges, including grand theft auto.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office posted on its social media account aerial footage of the ambulance surrounded by law enforcement cars with their lights flashing in the middle of the night.

There was also interior footage and bodycam footage as she was taken into custody by deputies with guns drawn.

We spoke by phone with Vanessa Oliver, CEO of Ambitrans, about what occurred.

“It’s always just terrifying because you’re afraid of what’s going to happen to the citizens that are out there on the streets,” Oliver said.

The Ambitrans ambulance GPS location helped deputies track it to a RaceTrac off Summerlin Road nearby.

Deputies confronted Quire, but she took off again, fleeing deputies, recklessly swerving, drifting across lanes, hitting curbs and almost flipping the ambulance.

LCSO’s aviation unit followed the suspect to U.S. 41 and Island Park Road, where she came to a stop.

Quire was booked shortly after 8 a.m. and remains in custody.
