While the Hazmat situation at an industrial park in Hendry County has been contained, many questions linger as a criminal investigation continues. Deputies are still at the scene. WINK News Reporter Camila Pereira contacted the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday morning for an update from the location off State Road 29. “There are no additional updates at this time. (The) criminal investigation will continue,” said Capt. Susan Harrelle. It remains unclear what exactly got into the air to make 21 people, including first responders, sick on Wednesday, and we’ve been told by authorities they don’t seem to know either. Slowly, the scene is clearing out. The road reopened Friday evening, but law enforcement remains, and many feel anxious in the small Hendry County community. According to the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office, samples of the substances were sent to the lab for more in-depth testing. We are waiting for those results.
