Trash pickup time changing in areas of Lee County due to heat

Published: Updated:

Because of the high heat in Southwest Florida, trash pick-up schedules are changing in Lee County.

Residents of unincorporated Lee County in Pine Island, Matlacha, North Fort Myers, Fort Myers Shores, Alva, Lehigh Acres, South Fort Myers, and the Village of Estero are asked to set their trash, recycling, and yard waste to the curb by 5 a.m.

This is one hour earlier than the typical set-out time of 6 a.m.

This is because Lee County wants to cut the hours that trash haulers are out in the heat during daylight.

It’s an hour earlier than usual, but the day of the week does not change.
