Parents’ guide to required school immunizations

The State of Florida requires certain vaccinations to be completed before a student may attend school.

The Florida Health Department in Lee County offered school immunizations with appointments available until August 5, 2024. Click here for details.

The Florida Department of Health in Collier County encouraged parents to follow doctor-prescribed schedules. Families who qualify for the Vaccines for Children program may get free vaccines.

WINK News Health and Medical Reporter Amy Oshier breaks down required vaccines:

K through 12

These immunizations must be administered to students K through 12 in both public and non-public schools. This includes all children entering, attending, or transferring to a school within the state.

  • Four or five doses of DTaP
  • Four or five doses of IPV
  • Two doses of MMR

  • Three doses of Hep B
  • One Tdao (tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis)
  • Two doses of Varicella *This is not required. The student can document a history showing they had varicella through a healthcare provider.

Additional requirements for 7th grade entry

  • One Tdap (tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis)

Requirements for Preschool Entry

Public and non-public. These are age-appropriate that a healthcare provider will deliver as part of a pediatric shot schedule.

  • Dtap
  • IPV
  • MMR
  • Varicella
  • Hib
  • Pneumococcal conjugate (PCV15/20)
  • Hepatitis B (Hep B)

  • Covid vaccine
  • Influenza vaccine
  • HPV vaccine

Exemption from Required Immunizations

There are various reasons a family could request that their child not be vaccinated, such as medical or religious reasons.
