Breaking down what Southwest Florida can expect from this weekend’s tropical system

Rain, wind, storm surge, and the possibility of a tornado are all potentially in the forecast for this weekend as The Weather Authority watches a system expected to develop into Tropical Storm Debby.

“Rainfall of two to five inches possible, with some portions of Southwest Florida seeing in excess of 6 inches over the course of this weekend,” explained Meteorologist Juliana Mejia.

Mejia breaks it down further by county, looking at Saturday evening, overnight and Sunday:

Collier County

  • Two to five inches of rainfall locally
  • Some spots could see greater totals
  • Winds gusting upwards of 35 to 45 miles per hour
  • One to three feet surge

Lee County

  • Two to five inches of rainfall locally
  • Some spots higher
  • Winds gusting upwards of 30 to 50 miles per hour
  • Tornado potential

Charlotte County

  • Two to four-foot surge
  • Two to five inches of rainfall
  • Some spots higher
  • Wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour

“Monday still looking soggy. Temperatures start to rebound towards the middle and end of the week,” added Mejia.
