FloridaCommerce awarded $1.5 million in grant funding for technical assistance and planning to 25 Florida communities, including DeSoto and Glades counties, to foster economic growth.

According to FloridaCommerce, the funds awarded on Thursday through the Community Planning Technical Assistance (CPTA) and Competitive Florida Partnership programs will be used for various job creation strategies.

DeSoto County was awarded $30,000 to develop a strategic revitalization plan for Downtown Arcadia.

Glades County was awarded $40,000 to prepare updated impact fee studies for capital/cultural facilities, parks/recreation facilities, schools, EMS and transportation facilities.

It will also study the relationship between development fees, facility needs, capital costs, alternative funding sources and consider examples of other communities’ impact fees and recommended fees.
