A Sarasota man has been arrested after drugs were reportedly found in his car while he was sleeping at a gas station in Punta Gorda.

According to the Punta Gorda Police Department, on Friday, just after 3:30 a.m., officers conducted a welfare check at the Mobile Station located at 3139 Tamiami Trail on a man who was found asleep at the wheel of a running vehicle, appearing to be impaired.

The man, later identified as Christopher Francoise, made furtive movements, grabbed items from the car while exiting, and then attempted to conceal them.

Francoise also resisted the officer’s attempts to restrain him.

A follow-up investigation led to the discovery of more than 250 grams of marijuana, 75 grams of cocaine, a large amount of pills and over $1,000 in cash.
