Man arrested after FHP pursuit and crash in Fort Myers

A vehicle pursuit early Saturday morning ended in a crash.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver has been identified as Frank Edward Tatum of Lehigh Acres.

When FHP, conducted the traffic stop on a vehicle at SR 82 and Michigan Ave., Tatum initially pulled over on the shoulder, then accelerated and fled.

According to FHP, after a short pursuit, the vehicle exited the roadway and crashed into the tree line on the Southbound Interstate-75 entrance ramp near Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Tatum then fled on foot for a short distance before he was caught.

He was arrested for fleeing, eluding and drug possession.

A passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported by EMS to Gulf Coast Medical Center.
