A Manatee Middle School student has been arrested after a knife was found in his backpack at school.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the 13-year-old’s backpack was searched after another student alerted the school administration Tuesday.

The student told administrators that the suspect showed them the knife.

School administrators located a fixed-blade knife inside the teen’s backpack.

Detectives said the student did not threaten anyone with the knife.

The 13-year-old student has been charged with possession of a weapon on school property.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public to call 911 or their non-emergency number at 239-252-9300 if they ever see something suspicious.
