The Pet for a Vet fundraiser held by WINK News’ sister radio station, 96.9 WINKFM, easily surpassed its goal of $15,000.

During its final push to reach its goal, the third annual fundraiser spent one-week generating donations in collaboration with the Wolfhounds Legacy in Punta Gorda.

The Friday deadline was met with an outstanding outpour of support, with donations reaching $29.000.

The Cape Coral-based nonprofit is dedicated to rescuing dogs from high-kill shelters and training them to be service dogs for local veterans and first responders.

With every $5,000 raised, a dog is rescued, given a second chance at life, and matched with a veteran who needs companionship and care.

Nearly six service dogs are now set to be paired with local heroes.
