FMPD rescues stranded family on First Street

According to the Fort Myers Police Department, authorities rescued a family stranded on First Street late Thursday night.

Authorities said that the FMPD emergency response vehicle was deployed to rescue the family.

The rescue occurred as storm surge from Hurricane Helene rose throughout neighborhoods along the river.

Authorities said that everyone in the family was safely transported.

FMPD is continuing to respond to calls and is encouraging residents to stay home during the storm.
