Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is urging Floridians to take the storm seriously and prepare ahead of Milton.

Tropical Storm Milton is expected to become a hurricane in less than 24 hours.

DeSantis held the news conference at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the State Emergency Operations Center in Tallahassee, joined by Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie.

As part of the executive order, DeSantis ramped up state support of county Helene debris removal efforts to 24/7 around the clock.

He said he has crews coming into Florida to prepare for power outages.

According to DeSantis and Gutherie, some areas will need to be evacuated.

“Anticipate there being, from your counties, evacuation orders issued. You will most certainly see them tomorrow morning. You don’t need to have an order to do what you need to do to protect yourself,” DeSantis said.

He said the most crucial preparation days are Sunday and Monday.
