The family of a 16-year-old girl is one step closer to getting justice as the two suspects in her murder will be charged as adults.

Jayden Lawson, 15, and Roosevelt Adderly III, 15, stand accused of killing Ja’Yhanna Johnson after their arrangement hearing on Tuesday.

According to Hendry County Sheriff Steve Whidden, Adderly is the victim’s cousin.

The two face second-degree homicide charges and were not required to appear in court.

Hendry County investigators said Johnson was shot and killed, caught in gang cross-fire at a Clewiston dance in October.

According to the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 11 p.m. on Oct. 11, they received numerous calls reporting shots fired into a building during a dance, killing Johnson.

The teen suspects’ next court appearance has yet to be determined.
