Tired of traffic trouble spots? Now is your chance to weigh in on changes

Traffic jams, potholes, bumpy roads and light cycles that go too fast to allow traffic to cruise through intersections. Here at WINK News, we hear it all when it comes to Southwest Florida roads.

As new projects surface and our area grows, roads have to keep up with progress. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) wants you to weigh in on our future needs.

Wayne Gaither, Southwest Area Office Supervisor of FDOT said, “The big projects that we got are intended to make energy safer and more efficient and the creating safe ways for vehicle system, changing direction travel.”

FDOT has scheduled a public hearing to present the Draft Tentative Five-Year Work Program. The work program includes improvements scheduled to begin next year. There are three ways to participate in the hearing.

  1. In-person and virtual presentations: FDOT District One will conduct a formal presentation in its Fort Myers office (10041 Daniels Parkway) from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Dec. 11. If you would prefer, you can attend virtually by clicking here.
  1. Public hearing: FDOT reps will be available Monday, Dec. 9, through Friday, Dec. 13 by appointment to review project materials with members of the public. Call FDOT (10041 Daniels Parkway) at 239-225-1900 to schedule an appointment.
  1. Self-guided online: both SWFLRoads.com and fdot.gov/wpph/district1 webpages can be accessed from a computer, tablet or mobile device on Monday, Dec. 11.

FDOT will accept comments through the close of business Friday, Dec. 13. Mail comments to L.K. Nandam, P.E., District Secretary, FDOT, 10041 Daniels Parkway, Fort Myers, FL 33913, Attention: Wayne Gaither, Southwest Area Office Director, or email comments to wayne.gaither@dot.state.fl.us.
