Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for the northern portion of the state ahead of winter conditions.

Pensacola, Panama City, Tallahassee and portions of Jacksonville are under a winter storm warning starting at 1 a.m. Wednesday.

DeSantis issued the emergency call ahead of the deteriorating conditions, asking motorists to stay home to avoid the incoming icy conditions.

Winter conditions have begun to affect Pensacola, as state government agencies will close at 1 p.m. on Tuesday for employees to prepare ahead of the incoming conditions.

Eleven snow plows will be deployed as around 3 to 5 inches of snow is forecast to land in the northern Florida area.

To mitigate the impact, the Florida Department of Transportation has treated all state bridges for snow and ice.

Cold weather shelters are available for those in need of housing.
