LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The search continues for a missing Fort Myers man. Andrew Barber, 32, vanished when his kayak flipped over Friday evening. Ever since then, investigators have been searching for him, focusing on the area near the Sanibel Causeway, but have not located his body.

Lee County Deputies picked up a sonar image near the Sanibel Causeway, that appeared to be a body. But officials say it turned out to be another object, possibly concrete.

The dive team was on scene for about an hour combing the water Monday morning. FWC tells WINK News Andrew Barber and his friend were kayaking, in San Carlos bay area, when they flipped over.

Barber was caught in the current and didn’t make it to shore, his friend was able to swim to safety, and neither were wearing a life jacket. WINK New has learned the men were drinking at the time, but FWC says, at this time, don’t know what caused the boat to flip.

The scene of divers in the water,  just a few feet from where people were fishing drew a lot of attention this morning.

FWC officer tells WINK News they will continue to search, until there is some closure to the case, however long it takes.  The Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and Cape Coral Police are also helping.
