MIAMI (AP) – The U.S. Coast Guard has rescued a man who drifted at sea for five days and ended up stranded on an uninhabited island in The Bahamas.

Coast Guard Petty Officer John-Paul Rios says the 39-year-old set out from Marathon in the Florida Keys in a small raft or dinghy when he accidentally drifted out to sea. He ended up on tiny Cay Sal Bank, just north of Cuba.

The man identified as Illinois native Larry Sutterfield had not been reported missing. The Coast Guard found him on a patrol of the area Monday. Coast Guard video shows him emerging from a small tent and waving frantically to get the crew’s attention.

The Coast Guard says “no major medical concerns were reported” upon his return to the U.S.
