Two boats catch fire at Diversified Yacht Services

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla.- The Fire Marshal’s Office and FWC are investigating to early morning boat fires at a busy dock on Fort Myers Beach.

The fires happened at Diversified Yacht Services around 5:30 Tuesday morning.

Fire Marshal Captain Ron Martin tells WINK News two boats were fully involved in flames. One is considered a total loss and sank to the bottom of the bay. The other, a 59 foot boat, was very heavily damaged.

Investigators will spend the day trying to determine what started the fire. Martin says boat fires are not unusual for them, but these are the first at this dock.

Witnesses described the scene as a “ball of fire with several explosions.”

WINK News has learned both boats were at the dock for service.

Emergency crews put boom around the dock to prevent oil from spreading deeper into the water.
