Stranger danger alert in Cape Coral

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Neighbors are nervous and a mother is horrified after her daughter was nearly kidnapped at her school bus stop.

Parents tell us they’re hesitant to send their kids to school tomorrow after a man tried to lure a teen into his truck off Country Club Boulevard in the southeast Cape.

“It scares me to death,” said the teen’s mother.

The mother says it all happened as her daughter was alone at the bus stop just before 6 a.m. Tuesday.

“She was standing at the bus stop, she had her earphones in, car came up behind her, man started talking to her, wanted to know where she was going, wanted to know if he could give her a ride,” she said.

The man was in a red pickup truck. The teen told police she refused numerous times to get in his vehicle, but that’s when the teen says the man got very upset.

“He actually got out of the car, said I am just trying to be nice, you need to get in the car,” said the mother.

Standing outside of his truck,  the man kept telling her to get in. The teen’s mom tells WINK News the man probably thought her daughter was younger because she doesn’t look 18-years-old.

“Trying to intimidate her to get in the car. If it were a younger kid it might have worked,” she said.

The teen says the man quickly jumped back into his truck and drove away once he saw the school bus turn the corner.

The girl says he’s in his 30s or 40s, about 5 feet 10 inches, has a thin build and looked scruffy. Police say he was driving a red two door pickup truck.

“That would be a parents worst nightmare to lose your kid,” said the mother.
