Toss a mullet or two, all for charity

Published: Updated:

PINE ISLAND, Fla. – For the 24th year in a row you have the chance to throw as many mullets as you like, as far as you can, all while raising funds for the Matlacha Mariners Club.

Throwers will have the chance to see how long they can throw a mullet for $5 a toss. All the money raised goes to support the Matlacha Marines Club with their community programs and scholarships for deserving high school students.

The adult with the longest throw wins $150 and a plaque. Many throwers will try and beat the all time record set nearly 12 years ago, of 166 feet. Throwers can toss as many times as they like and throw in any style. They can not however, wear gloves, roll the fish in the dirt, or cross the foul line.

The Mullet Toss Championship takes place at Matlacha Community Park and begins with registration at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 21. The event is free and also includes several vendors and food.
