Truck backs over water main; boil water notice issued for FMB

Published: Updated:

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. – A boil water notice is in effect for people living on the bayside of Fort Myers Beach from Connecticut to the Publix. It also applies to anyone on the beachside without water.

The notice comes after a truck backed over a fire hydrant and broke a line beneath the ground.

The accident happened after 6 p.m. on Wednesday night. Calls were pouring into the water department, all of the homes from Connecticut to Publix were without water including the grocery store.

There were also at least two homes and a building without water on the Oceanside.

Crews were working for hours to repair the line; they had to cut 4 to 6 feet of line to stop the leak.

The fire hydrant will be replaced Thursday afternoon.
