DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Deputies say a Volusia County Fire Services battalion chief was attacked by a man who was apparently high on bath salts.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://bit.ly/1FSS4FT ) reports Michael Inglett was heading to the fire station on Friday night when he saw a man running down the road. The man dove onto the hood of a vehicle and cracked the windshield.
The chief confronted 35-year-old Richard Keefer and started to call for help.
Deputies say Keefer grabbed the chief and slapped him. The chief hit Keefer in the face with his portable radio and witnesses helped him secure the man until deputies arrived.
Keefer later told deputies he had taken methadone and bath salts. He remains jailed Tuesday. Jail records don’t indicate whether he’s hired an attorney.
