CAPE CORAL, Fla.- WINK News confirms the funding is in place to start work on Village Square, a new development proposed for downtown Cape Coral.

The $140 million project includes plans to build a six story, mixed-use building in an empty lot right off Cape Coral Parkway near the Cork Soakers Deck and Wine Bar.

The proposal features retail stores, business offices and 152 residential units.

The city put the project on hold in 2014 until the developer could prove it was viable.

The developer is expected to meet with the city next week and hopes to break ground by the end of the year.
