TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Florida State athletic director Stan Wilcox says the school will investigate Jameis Winston’s comments that the ex-Seminoles quarterback believed he had an understanding with an unidentified grocery store employee that led to last year’s much-publicized crab legs shoplifting incident.

In a statement Wednesday, Wilcox says Winston’s comments were new details to the school, which will work with the NCAA to determine if a violation occurred.

Speaking earlier during an Atlantic Coast Conference coaches teleconference, Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher says Winston’s comments are likely true but added it appears to be “totally an isolated incident.”

Fisher says FSU’s compliance office contacted the store after Winston’s citation and again Wednesday.

The Heisman Trophy winner and possible top overall NFL draft pick made the comments on an ESPN pre-draft show that aired Tuesday.
