Ready, set, ‘Fill the Fleet’

Published: Updated:

FORT MYERS, Fla. – September is Hunger Action Month and the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida along with Publix and LeeTran have teamed up to “Fill the Fleet.”

Sunday, September 20, all 34 Publix stores in Lee County will participate in this year’s event. Different from past years, the food drive will only take place on Sunday, not weeks leading up to the day of the event. Making it more important than ever to donate on Sunday.

Publix and the Harry Chapin Food Bank have made it super easy for you to participate. All 15 selected food items in need have been pre-shopped and will be waiting up front at Publix stores. All you have to do is purchase the pre-selected items and hand them over to volunteers who will load them on to the LeeTran buses.

Last year, the Harry Chapin Food Bank collected more than 18 million pounds of food in the five-county service area and Fill The Fleet brought in more than 170,000 pounds of food. To find the nearest Lee County Publix to you, click here.
