BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) – The body found in a freezer has been positively identified as Janiya Thomas, an 11-year-old Florida girl who had been missing for more than a year.

The Bradenton Herald reports (http://tinyurl.com/omhh9wg) the confirmation of identity came during a court hearing Monday afternoon in the case of Janiya’s mother, 31-year-old Keishanna Thomas.

Still not revealed is what killed Janiya, of Bradenton, or how long she has been dead.

A contempt of court charge against Thomas was dropped as a result of the positive identification. Last week, Thomas refused multiple times to speak to a judge in court about her daughter.

Thomas was first brought before a judge Oct. 16 for refusing to tell Manatee County Sheriff’s child protective investigators of the child’s whereabouts.

Bradenton is about 46 miles south of Tampa.
