KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) – A 25-year-old man faces a charge of attempting to kill a law enforcement officer in the Florida Keys.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says charges were brought against Timothy Thomas on Monday.

Thomas is accused of firing a gun at Deputy Joshua Gordon on Saturday night. Deputies had been searching for Thomas in connection with a robbery. The deputy was shot in the chest as he tried to apprehend Thomas. Authorities say Gordon was wearing a bulletproof vest and wasn’t injured.

Officials say Thomas fled and was captured Sunday hiding in a Key West house. They say he had suffered two gunshot wounds.

Deputies say Thomas has outstanding warrants from Orange and Martin counties.

He’s being held without bond. It’s not clear whether he has an attorney to contact for comment on the case.
