PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (AP) – A Pembroke Pines man has pleaded guilty after a police officer was shot and wounded in 2011.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1lpWyOx ) reports 23-year-old Delon Roxroy Sinclair pleaded guilty Monday to an attempted murder charge.

Sinclair confessed to shooting officer Confesor Gonzalez in 2011 after breaking into Gonzalez’ vehicle. According to a police record, Gonzalez confronted Sinclair and Sinclair opened fire, striking Gonzalez. Gonzalez returned fire and struck Sinclair as he tried to flee.

Gonzalez was in court Monday as Sinclair pleaded guilty. He says he’s not angry and is grateful to be alive.

A judge says Sinclair could face a maximum sentence of life in prison for trying to kill an officer.
