IMMOKALEE, Fla.- Investigators are trying to determine what caused a modular home to go up in flames Wednesday morning on El Paso Trial in Immokalee.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire quickly but say the home is considered a total loss.

“I guess it hasn’t hit me yet,” said Mario Garcia, the man renting the home.

Garcia says he was on his way back from breakfast with his girlfriend when they saw smoke.

“As soon as I opened the door, ’cause I was trying to hit it with the water hose, I seen it was already fire and I was like, ‘nah I ain’t going in there.’ So I started pushing all my appliances to the front. As soon as I kept pushing, poof, I see the fire come out like that and I’m like, man I started getting scared and then the tree caught on fire.”

Garcia said he repairs appliances and stores them in the yard, but he has no idea how the fire started because the home did not have electricity.

“I know the devil don’t ever sleep so it had to be something. I didn’t have power or nothing cause I had cut,” said Garcia.

Garcia is receiving aid from the Red Cross.
