Spring breakers start to arrive on Fort Myers Beach

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla.- It’s that time of the years again, spring breakers are beginning to take over Fort Myers Beach and businesses are welcoming the college students with open arms.

“We hope it’s going to up our revenue and bring in a lot of people.”

Businesses on the island have been anxiously waiting for spring break to start.

“They are going to be welcoming the students coming in and spending some money on the beach,” said Bud Nocera.

“We did have a good turn out last spring break, but we are hoping it going to be a lot bigger this year.”

Olivia Gadaleta is a server at Hurricane Tina’s. She says the road construction on Estero Boulevard has kept some people away so she’s happy the spring breakers are coming back to town.

“I’m a college student, so I live off my tips, this is my job. It’s really been affecting me paying for my living costs and my school. So I’m really excited to make some more money.”

Places like the Sunset Beach Tropical Grill are anticipating a busy spring break.

“We have put on a lot more staff, five to six people on our team, more bartenders. We need to be prepared for that big slam,” said Heather Johnson.

Every year thousands of college students choose Fort Myers Beach as their vacation destination. People who work on the beach just hope each spring break is better than the year before.

“A couple thousand student body members a week for a couple of months will be great,” said Craig Stalder.

“We definitely need the business. It keeps us alive because these are our only jobs that we do have,” said Johnson.

The Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce says in the last 10 days, beach businesses say business has been getting better.
