FORT MYERS, Fla.- One person is dead following a crash involving a City of Fort Myers Solid Waste truck and a minivan, the Fort Myers Police Department said.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (State Road 82) reopened at 3:30 p.m. after being shut down for hours near Interstate 75 on Monday while police investigated.

The driver of the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

“The driver’s side was totaled, the front was totaled, the windshield was… gone,” said Nikki Garcia who witnessed the accident. “We were hoping they’d be okay but the way we’d seen it in the front, there was no way.”

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
