Investors try to sell appeal of spring training in Collier County

NAPLES, Fla.- A group of investors is working to bring the Atlanta Braves from central Florida to Collier County for spring training.

“We’re very excited about it and we’ve had a lot of fun working with them,” said Gary Price with Fifth Avenue Advisors. “We think baseball is a good fit for this county.”

“I think it would terrific. Spring training is almost as popular as playing golf here during the month of March,” said resident Steve Kilgard.

Price adds, “most of the teams have moved out of Orlando and now they’re traveling by bus to go to games and spring training. They want to be closer to the Red Sox and Twins ultimately.”

Price says a possible location has been narrowed down but it will not be made public for the moment. The facility, which could cost around $75 million dollars to build, will be paid for through a combination of state and private funding and taxpayers.

The group of investors will now ask Collier County commissioners to get on board with the plan.

The Braves are also considering a move to Sarasota County or West Palm.
