CAPE CORAL, Fla.- The driver in a Sunday night crash that sent three people to the hospital with life-threatening injuries had a blood alcohol content of 0.230, the Cape Coral Police Department said.

Michael Grossman, 30, lost control of his car while driving at a high rate of speed along Cape Coral Parkway West, police said. The vehicle side-swiped two palm trees and then hit a third tree head-on in the median, police said.

Grossman and his two passengers, Derrick Anthony Walker, 30, and Stephen Campanella, 31, were all taken as trauma alerts to the hospital.

Police say the crash caused the vehicle to split into three pieces, ejecting two of the man and sending debris more than 100 feet away.

Grossman remains in critical condition, according to a Lee Memorial spokesperson.
