SANIBEL, Fla.- E8 remains in critical and guarded condition after a surgery to fix a fractured femur, the Clinic of Wildlife and Rehabilitation (CROW) said Monday.

“What we’re seeing is that the two fragments are really overriding,” said Dr. Heather Barron with CROW. “What we have done, is go in and surgically repair that… Basically we have pinned his bone back together.”

The eagle was placed on strict cage rest and will continue to receive supportive care, CROW said.

E8 was found injured near the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam on Friday. Some feared the worse when the eaglet went missing May 7. Video from the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam showed the bird being pushed off a tree after being attacked by an owl.
