ISTANBUL — A resident of Cape Coral is stranded in Turkey in the wake of last year’s failed military coup, as he told WINK News.

He said he’s been informed that no flights out of the country are available until at least the end of the month. The man, who wants to conceal his identity out of concern for his safety, described seeing gunfire, tanks on the streets and helicopters firing missiles into buildings.

“We’ve seen it in neighboring countries,” he said. “We’ve seen it in Syria, we’ve seen it in Lebanon and Iraq … but never Turkey.”

He arrived at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport last month just hours after a deadly terror attack that killed nearly four dozen people.
